The 1980's proved to be an impactful and powerful decade where the "American Dream" became a societal privilege. Across America, lives were altered and affected by Reaganomics, HIV/AIDS, an influx of gang violence, fashion statements, an increase in pop culture, and the widening of poverty. Hip Hop culture introduced the world to a popular term that withstood the social and unapologetically colloquial tests of language and time. That intangible and culturally fresh word was “dope.”
Fast-forward to 2016, and the America we initially perceived has, in her recent years, revealed more of her "authentic" self. We are faced with reflections of The Great Recession, reduction in job availability, technological advances, #BlackLivesMatter, increasing violence, higher taxes, LGBT rights, social media presence, police brutality, Hip Hop is dead (to some), marches for justice, Donald Reagan (my apologies, Donald Trump), and an overall increasing consciousness surrounding the highly invaluable presence of the Black spirit. The 2016 "American Dream" seems to offer more than that of the ‘80s, and yet the skills required to ascertain that dream, for many, are haphazardly learned by trial and error. Teenage and adult lives in 2016 are vastly different than those of the 1980's. Because of this trend, too many have learned critical life skills and lessons in error stemming from proverbial demotic language and "generational osmosis."
A Dope Soul Life Group, LLC desires to shift and propel the people's minds and our “VILLAGE,” i.e., our foundationally critical term and concept by training, teaching, and offering the skills needed to push toward and advance within one's own "American Dream." We just prefer our Village to live their dreams in a DOPE (Dwelling On Positive Expressions) way!
